Bryan University offers two tracks for people seeking careers in the solar energy industry. Our solar energy technician diploma provides educational opportunities for students seeking to enter the photovoltaic and renewable energy field. A solar-sustainable energy specialist associate degree offers additional coursework beyond skills training. Which program is right for you? Bryan University explains.
Earn a solar energy technician diploma in 40 weeks, or four quarters, which is less than a year (nine to 10 months). You’ll find yourself working at an externship within a year of starting this program.
Our solar-sustainable energy specialist associate degree offers completion over 70 weeks, or seven quarters. If you finish with enrollment in consecutive quarters, you could have this career-focused training done within 18 months.
Courses for the solar energy technician diploma combine technical skills training in the areas of photovoltaic markets and installations, safety protocols, electrical knowledge, system components, photovoltaic sizing, electrical/mechanical design, photovoltaic performance analysis, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques. You’ll be ready for an entry-level position in a solar energy firm, particularly installing the panels at facilities.
The solar-sustainable energy specialist associate degree provides advanced training beyond the diploma. We supplement with additional coursework in solar sales, sustainable building practices, and business knowledge relevant to positions in solar sales, installation, management, supply, and manufacturing. This track prepares you for any job in a photovoltaic setting, including a manufacturing facility, sales, and project management.
What You’ll Learn
Courses in the Bryan University School of Trades teach you the theories behind solar photovoltaics, electricity, and construction practices. You’ll also get into solar design, maintenance, and operation of systems. You’ll also learn about site safety for installation.
A solar-sustainable energy specialist associate degree also teaches you the economics behind solar sales and sustainable building principles. Both program tracks offer an externship in the photovoltaic industry to give you experience.
Both the solar energy technician diploma and solar-sustainable energy specialist associate degree prepare you for NABCEP Photovoltaic Associate certification. The PV associate is meant to encompass all of the knowledge and fundamental principles of the application, design, installation, operation, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems.
