Building healthy lifestyle habits is not an easy task.

Creating new healthy habits will not only help you feel better, but it will set you up for success. At Bryan University our mission is to improve the lives of our students, faculty, and staff.

Check out our 6 tips for building healthy lifestyle habits!

1. Create a schedule you can stick to.
One way to really kick start a new habit is sticking to a schedule. Staying consistent and sticking to a daily routine is key to reaching your goals. If you are enrolled in our online classes, try setting a set time every day to work on your studies or homework.

2. Invest time in restructuring your environment.
Removing temptations by changing your surroundings will make healthy lifestyle choices easier. Are you easily distracted by television while working on school work? Maybe you are trying to eat healthy, but you can hear those chips calling your name. Taking the time to realize what is distracting you and removing those distractions will help you succeed in the long run.

3. Find a support system that will help you build your habit.
Having someone who will keep you motivated will help you reach your goals. That means if you are struggling you will have someone pushing you for the better! Bryan University students can always seek advice from our Academic Success Coordinators or our Career Services team. Our staff is here to help you create habits and reach your goals.

4. Develop your trigger and establish a routine.
A trigger is a ritual you use right before you exercise your habit. This can be good or bad; lets focus on the good. Time, for example, is a simple trigger that can be used without much effort. Waking up in the same way and using the same routine can help you build a healthy lifestyle habit before you know it! Try using this technique with your online classes and soon it will become second nature.

5. Track your progress to help keep you motivated.
There is no better feeling than seeing yourself stick to the habit you are trying to build. Recording your progress will help you stay on track with developing new healthy habits. Keeping track of each step that you have made towards your goal will help you feel motivated even when you do not feel like pushing anymore.

6. Reward yourself because you earned it!
You have worked hard on building your new lifestyle habit. The best way to stick to this new habit is to give yourself a small reward. Now, there is no reason to dip into any bad habits. A small reward will keep you motivated and keep you pushing to develop your new habit!
