Financial Assistance Programs
at Bryan University

Bryan University’s Financial Assistance Office is available to help students navigate how to pay for their college experience.  Abiding by federal and institutional guidelines, we work to meet the needs of our student’s  unique financial situations and guide them in making responsible financial decisions. Our office is committed to providing students with the  information needed to make their training as affordable as possible.

Bryan University offers the following educational financial aid programs:

Federal Pell Grants

The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based grant from the federal government intended for high need undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’s degree. Unlike student loans, the Pell Grant does NOT have to be paid back. It can provide a financial foundation for many students, allowing additional aid types to help minimize any funding gaps. To see if you qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, students first need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on studentaid.gov. The FAFSA will determine your eligibility once the application has been submitted, and a Student Aid Index (SAI) has been determined.

The amount a student receives depends on the student’s SAI, enrollment status, and Cost of Attendance. Pell Grant funding is limited each award year by the federal government. Student’s can receive up to the 600% Lifetime Eligibility Usage (LEU).

Federal Direct Loans

Students can qualify for Federal Student Loans once they have filled out the FAFSA and completed all the necessary steps for their Financial Aid office. The Department of Education provides two types of loans for students: Subsidized Direct Student Loans (need based), and Unsubsidized Direct Student Loans. Loans are funds provided to students to help pay for college, that MUST be paid back.  Repayment on student loans typically begins six months after graduation or six months post-separation from the school.

Direct Subsidized Loan

Available only to undergraduate students, these need-based loans are awarded to families to assist with educational expenses.

  • U.S. Department of Education acts as the lender; loan is federally insured
  • Loan available to students enrolled at least half-time and demonstrate financial need
  • Students are usually not charged interest on the loan during certain periods
Direct Unsubsidized Loan

Available to graduate and undergraduate students, these loans are non-need based, meaning financial need is not required.

  • U.S. Department of Education acts as the lender; loan is federally insured
  • Interest begins to accrue as of the date of the first disbursement of the loan
  • Loans available to students enrolled at least half-time
  • Students have the option of paying the interest while they are in school or waiting until the principal repayment plan begins.
Direct PLUS Loan

The Direct PLUS loan is a loan for eligible parents and graduate or professional students. For a Parent PLUS loan, the parent of the student takes out the loan to help the student pay for college.  Parents can borrow up to the total cost of attendance minus any other financial aid the student has received.

  • U.S. Department of Education acts as the lender; loan is federally insured
  • Parents are responsible for the interest that begins to accrue as of the date of the first disbursement of the loan
  • Repayment of a PLUS loan generally begins on the date of the last disbursement of the loan and may extend for 10 years; however, parents do have the option of delaying repayment until six months after their dependent student is no longer enrolled at least half-time
  • Borrower must not have a negative credit history
