Launching A Career In Business Administration

These endless possibilities are what inspired Bryan University student Dalene Smalley.

Smalley was no stranger to hard work. While most kids spent summers by the pool or in front of the television, Smalley spent summers on her family farm, baling hay, mowing the yard, taking care of animals and learning to drive at an early age.

“Life growing up wasn’t always the easiest. Dad worked nights and mom worked during the day and took care of us four kids in the meantime,” Smalley said. “When the hard times came it made us appreciate the good times that much more.”

When Smalley realized she was interested in pursuing a business administration career, she knew she wanted to attend a school with small class sizes and great instructors.

Smalley knew, however, that seeking her business administration degree would be a different type of challenge. Smalley has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a specific learning disability.

She knew she needed to find the right support system to be successful.

Smalley found the right support system at Bryan University. She got the one-on-one attention she needed to understand the information being taught in her classes. The instructors were able to understand her individual needs and provide accommodations as needed.

“They are very understanding of each student’s needs and accommodates them as needed. [Bryan University] has a great staff that is willing to go above and beyond,” Smalley said.

Smalley started her business administration career by obtaining a diploma, but knows a wider variety of jobs will be available if she goes on to obtain her Bachelor of Business Administration degree. The Bachelor of Business Administration degree takes the foundations of the Business Administration Diploma and provides its graduates an opportunity to gain a more extensive business background, focusing on principles and techniques of effective administration.

After her successful start at Bryan University, Smalley now has the confidence to move forward with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. When asked about her time at Bryan University, Smalley said that she feels better about her future. She has broadened her understanding of herself and learned to better manage her ADHD.

Smalley feels that despite personal challenges, she has a bright future ahead of her, and it is Bryan University that she credits with helping her on her path.
